“En Bretagne, la pluie ne tombe que sur les cons"
Brittany is renowned in France for its rain. It is an unjust reputation because statistically the average rainfall is no more than any other French region. However, the lush green countryside would not be so without a good soaking. Generally the climate of Brittany is similar to Cornwall in the U.K. but normally a few degrees warmer. The climate of Brittany is oceanic: the ocean currents tend to keep the region warmer than its eastern neighbours. A morning mist is very common in inland central Brittany whereas snow is rare; and when snow does arrive it tends to disappear quickly.
As a peninsula in the Atlantic Ocean, wind in Brittany can be bracing; the traditional Breton longère, long low buildings with thick granite walls were built that way for a reason. At the same time the coastal breeze in the long hot summer months is refreshingly welcome.
