The Bretagne à Grande Vitesse BGV (High Speed Brittany) project features two distinct aspects: the extension of the high speed line between Connerré(Sarthe) and Rennes, and the developments intended to speed up the two links between Brittany’s capital and Brest and Quimper, putting these two cities 3 hours from Paris.
Brittany has 13 railway lines, including 3 TGV lines. The TGV connects Paris to Rennes in 2 hours.
TGV lines provide direct connections between Lille and Rennes (in 3 hrs 50 mins), Lyon and Rennes (in 4 hrs 30 mins), Marseille and Rennes (6 hrs 10 mins) and Strasbourg and Rennes(5 hrs 10 mins).
The TER (regional express transport) serves Brittany’s main towns. 300 trains and 65 coaches are in service each day over 1,200 km of network. Fast links connect Rennes and Brest or Rennes and Quimper in 2 hours.
Between 2000 and 2010 all the trains in circulation around Brittany have either been upgraded or replaced.
